Fire at Straw Hat Pizza

The small blaze started in office area and was extinguished before fire crews arrived, official say.

A small fire that started in an office area of Monday morning left a man with burns to his hands, but no major damage to the building or anyone else.

At 9:18 a.m., the Sacramento Metro Fire Department was alerted to the incident at 9129 Kiefer Blvd. A man was found on scene -- presumably an employee -- with burns to his hands from trying to extinguish the fire himself, said Metro Fire PIO Michelle Eidman.

The fire was extinguished by the restaurant's sprinkler system before fire crews arrived, Eidman said, and does not appear to have been intentional.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this point, though it appears it began near the floor of the office, Eidman said. And while there is no official damage estimate -- the damage to the structure was small -- there was smoke, water and possible damage to food items, she said.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
