Get Out: Weekend Planner for Feb. 25-27
From beer week to fashion week, improv comedy and a book signing, here's the lowdown on weekend activities.
It's never too early to start making weekend plans, so here's a sampling of fun, varied events happening in and around Rosemont. From a beer festival to fashion shows to a book signing, the Sacramento area is abound with weekend activities to enjoy with friends, family and that special someone. And don't forget to make a plan to get home safely. Cheers!
Where/When: All over Sacramento / Feb. 25 - March 6. Most bars and breweries are participating in some form, with beer and food specials, and there will be a scavenger hunt, Beerfest at CalExpo and more. The Capital Beerfest will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at CalExpo.

Why Go: Sacramento has a rich beer culture and this is the festival's second year, so there is much potential for growth. Breweries from all over California will be participating and the there are more than 300 events, all beer-related.
Pricing: Varies depending on event. The Beerfest is $30 for general admission, $5 for designated drivers and $60 for VIP tickets.

Celebrate Sacramento Fashion Week
Where/When: Events start Thursday with a free launch party, and run through Sunday, with a free fashion forum at Sacramento State University Union (6000 J St.). The fashion forum starts at 1 p.m.
Why Go: Support local artistic and fashion talents that will be showcased and otherwise wouldn't have an audience. The events provide a bridge between designers, models, photographers, advertising agencies and make up and hair stylists in the region. Even if you're not in the field, it's sure to provide some enticing eye candy.
Pricing: The Thursday launch party and Sunday fashion forum are free; the Friday and Saturday showcases are between $35 and $125. All profits go toward the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento and Northeastern California.
Poetry Reading and Book Signing: NSAA presents 'Sub-American'
Where/When: Carol's Books, 1913 Del Paso Blvd., Saturday, 3 p.m.
Why Go: NSAA is a poet and spoken word artist who just released the book “Sub-American,” which deals with the concept of being a hyphenated American in the form of poems. His book explores topics such as former President George W. Bush, Hurricane Katrina, the Civil Rights Movement and more.
Pricing: Free
Where/When: The Comedy Spot, 1050 20th St., Suite 130 / 11 p.m. Saturday.
Why Go: With the theme “High vs. Drunk Improv,” the stereotypes are bound to take on various comical forms. The audience–which will be provided munchies–gets to vote on the best performing team. And, as The Comedy Spot puts it, “Before you ask – Yes they are!”
Pricing: $8; doors open at 10:50 p.m.
Where/When: 1616 I St. (old McCulley Brothers Automotive building) / 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Why Go: This is the first carnaval held by the Brazilian Center for Cultural Exchange of Sacramento, and will feature live music, Samba dancers, Brazilian food and drinks, along with a raffle.
Pricing: $15 in advance, $20 at door; 18 and older only.
