Bio
My first reporting job was with the Winters Express shortly after I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with a degree in Communications and a minor in Spanish. Once I realized I loved the job, I decided to enroll in the New Media Journalism program at Northwestern University, where I got a Masters degree.

I then became an Online Editor for PoliceOne.com, a national crime and public safety site. I also wrote several blogs for the Huffington Post, covering mostly college issues and music.

I'm happily married to my wife, Bianca Moreno. I also enjoy playing music, reading, and eating two-scoop ice-cream cones.

Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for us to inject our beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will cause us to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics
I’m a registered Democrat but am always prepared to vote otherwise, and have done so in the past.

Religion
I consider myself to be Christian, but have not been baptized and am more interested in my own personal approach than with the salvation of strangers. Call me a cliché, but I’d say I’m more spiritual than I am religious.

Local Hot-Button Issues
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?
Davis is a college town that was spun in part out of the rich agricultural land that surrounds it. That combination has turned it into a place full of incredibly smart people who care deeply about the health of the community as well as its future. The subsequent issue is: How to grow responsibly?

Where do you stand on each of these issues?
I feel that almost every news story in Davis can be traced easily back to two things: downtown and the university. The health and vitality of both tend to be at the forefront of almost any conversation. In turn, I’d prefer to see the town grow slowly and avoid sprawl, unlike so many surrounding towns.

Thanks for taking my figs! If you want more, there are about 600 newly ripened ones ready to fall! If Bianca wants a good jam recipe let me know, I'll send her the one I used.

Hi Justin,

I am working on a feature film that is helping a great cause as well as offering people the opportunity to get involved with the film. I think this would be a great story to write about and tell people. I just wanted to pass this along. …Or If it’s not too much trouble, pledge on something (they are offering great things!) and if you can also please pass this along to your friends.

If I can help you out with anything or the production can help you with anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Here is the link for the film:

Thanks

Howdy neighbor! We should wear silly balloon hats while eating two-scoop ice-cream cones and talking about a Plank-Off sometime soon!
