The school was a Title I Achievement Award winner in 2007, and has been recognized as an exemplary school by the Sacramento City Unified School District.
The school houses an on-site daycare and a parent-participation preschool. During the 2002-2003 school year, the school was modernized through updates to the plumbing, exterior, heating and air conditioning, portables and other areas.

It currently operates as a parent participation preschool, where parents or guardians participate in workshops with their children and other families one day each week. Children can participate every day.
The school has a small capacity—only 25 students can be enrolled at a time—and the cost of one five-month semester is $300. It's operated by the Sacramento City Unified School District.
Edward Kelley Preschool, which was originally known as the Brighton School, is located on Bradshaw Road. It was formerly located on Folsom Boulevard before being moved. The Rancho Cordova Bicentennial Committee restored the school in 1975.
