That's not acceptable. What's the point in even having the school open?
Tim Franks April 26, 2013 at 12:07 pm
WOW... Lazy Teaching Strikes AGAIN!!! Looks like who ever is running that high school needs to getRead More it together or start looking for a new JOB! The kids have to be pushed every day and that takes hard work. Just because you have your 10 year does not mean you get to sit back and watch. STEP UP ROSEMONT!

Gabe Ross - "Also, the new plan would provide free lunch for more students at ourRead More schools." Hey Mr. Ross, it is not FREE! Someone else is being made to pay for it! How about you reduce, not increase the cost of lunch and everyone pays equal for his/her own lunch? Or brings their own? Instead they want to make the few "providers" already paying full price to pay more for THEIR lunch so that MORE "takers" can get a free lunch? Common sense: When you have more takers than providers, it can not sustain itself and will crash.

This also happened on Rosemont Drive on Friday the 5th of April. My garage door was written on withRead More permanent marker. Hateful speech. We don't need this whoever did it!

"walking home where taking pictures next the homes that where written on." Wow, that isRead More really badly written. Is our children learning, indeed.

This was also done to 13 homes and cars on Posada Way about 3 weeks ago. Sheriff's Dept. took reportRead More and is investigating. Much of what was written on homes and cars could be considered "hate speech"; very disturbing to those of us who have lived here for years. This is NOT what Rosemont should look like; we are better than this.

Ms. Martinez will not discipline students , because she does not want her suspension numbers to beRead More high. She gave a half assed effort looking for the gun . She only cares about saving herself . She never backs the staff .Every quality teacher and coach we have had, has left Rosemont for greener pastures. The school is a joke
Diane Brinkley March 6, 2013 at 03:20 pm
There is the problem: Disciplinary actions students "might" face? How aboutRead More "will" face in order to deter this from growing from a rumor into possible reality?
Kathy Long March 6, 2013 at 12:22 pm
Are you serious Tyler??? So they should not investigate it and then what? Maybe it would of not beenRead More a rumor and then what? In these days and times you cant take chances, theres to many troubled teens from poor parenting!!! Get real, dont blame the people for doing their jobs!

I see I have no response. And I'll bet the majority of people would respond "ofRead More course"..... Sorry folks, to the first airport in Oregon ( Medford,35 miles over the Northern border) , and flight time to San Diego (Southern border) from SF are nearly identical. WTH! Congratulations Bay Area...you are in Central California....Teachers need to teach and be allowed to do so.

Like I said, proves my point most definately, and Mrs. Java had a burning comment but couldn'tRead More disclose herself-Patch staff are Trolls and proven. I rest my case! Psst, change is coming, that's fine, that's only cause you mean emails will be matched and confirmed with thd person, you know Mrs. Java, like you did - post a comment, "First Name, email, and password-thank you for joint Patch :) ha ha, so easy. That would be better, but it seems you cant afford it yet! Ohh wait, trouble, if trouble is what you're trying to get us into, can we include you Mrs. Java for your Trollness ... I think you should. Found out that at one point Sen. Steinberg was renting the building that used to house the board ofRead More education (before the Serna Center was built) from the district (Sup. Raymond) for only $1 a month. Guess someone called in a favor on the Senator.
Andrea Raymond February 17, 2013 at 06:27 pm
If you are going with the Rancho boundary theory, that would also include booting George WashingtonRead More Carver High School, which by itself, has a budget of over 2 million each year -- and houses way less students than their capacity. The districts new assessment of "maximum capacity" is waaaay different than a report submitted a few years ago when the first round of school closures came through (much higher now). These were reports publicly submitted and, in my opinion, is proof they are fudging the numbers.
MMuller February 14, 2013 at 07:05 pm
Another issue is the way they determined "Enrollment Capacity". They are claiming that itRead More was done fairly simply because the same criterion was applied to all of the schools, but the very criterion itself is unfair. They counted every single room that was not being used as an instructional classroom (with the exception of the library and cafeteria) as 33 (except the teachers lounge because it was smaller). There is a problem with this on several levels. First: That is the maximum class size for grades 4th thru 6th. The maximum class size for 1st thru 3rd is only 31. So they're trying to claim that all of those classrooms could and would be taken up by 4th to 6th grade classes - not likely. Second: James Marshall only has one empty classroom. The rest are being used for various programs like day care, computer lab, occupational therapy, speech therapy, intervention, pre-school, START, etc. So converting them to classrooms means eliminating those services. Third: When James Marshall was rebuilt in 2004, 5 additional classrooms were built that were not included in the intended plan - a contractor's error. Fourth: Under the district's sustainable facilities master plan - one of the items stated that the current classrooms are of insufficient size for classes larger than 30 - yet currently , there are over thirty per classroom and the rooms not being used as classrooms are being counted at over 30. The district stacked the deck against the schools to legitimize their proposal.

It has everything to do with districts. SCUSD has too many schools and not enough students becauseRead More its budget is blown-out by taking care of schools it shouldn't be spending on. If you are going to close schools then the ones that shouldn't even be under their responsibility should be the first to go. Period. And besides, everything that MMuller mentioned is even more compelling. Nope, it's time for Rancho kids and parents to take care of themselves, they voted to leave the county, now they can deal with it. I do agree with you though that a clear line (post 1975, when over half of this community wasn't even built) should be drawn, and that the district line should be Bradshaw (not Mayhew) because that is the county line. After all, things change a lot in 38 years, apparently unless of course if you're a school district that doesn't know how to prioritize school closures, that is. Everything west should be SCUSD and everything east should be Folsom-Cordova. End of story, mam.

Its an interesting idea. Now, though, who is going to pay for all the computers needed for theseRead More tests? To make the test fair, each student will have to take them at the same time. Where will the schools put them? Who will pay for IT staff to make sure they are operating properly? Who will pay the insurance for the computers, and for the extra electricity needed at each school site? Where are the facts behind the ability to implement this new plan? This plan needs more details explained.
navigio January 10, 2013 at 03:18 pm
Not only that, but CST participation rate is a metric for AYP, so a school that falls below the 95%Read More threshold will not make AYP (not that that matters anymore, nor that it ever mattered for non-title1 schools like SM). I would expect ongoing district assessments are used more than CSTs for placement for intervention given that there are more of them and they are more closely aligned with what is going on the classroom. If its true that schools are using CST results for individual intervention decisions, then I think parents should know that (and realize its probably a bad idea). Your school site council should have info on that since its job is to monitor things like that. In any case, anyone who wants to opt out should also ask their child. They should have a say in the matter.
Louis Educe January 10, 2013 at 12:07 pm
Gail Ann, while you are correct on the parent opt out right please make sure and tell parents to askRead More the school/district what the STAR scores are used for with in the disrtict/school/grage-level. if the child is in the middle grades (7th and 8th are most important) these scores are used to make placement choices for high school courses. Many HS counselors will NOT look very closely at grades (A,Bs) because of the fear of grade inflation - unless you can make sure you child also have some non-biased, standardized (normed) test data their placement choices might be limited. If your child is a high performer you can have them start taking the PSAT in 8th grade (but they will be compared to 10th grade standards). At the lower grade levels the CST data is used to also make placement choices into intervention as well as higher level instructional clusters. Be well aware of the implications of withdrawing your child from the testing before you just exercise you right to "make a point"

"I am responding to Shlripathi Kamath's post of January 15 which..." http://bit.ly/U1OGkP
Sylvia Jones January 16, 2013 at 06:24 pm
I am responding to Shlripathi Kamath's post of January 15 which takes exception to a teacher whoRead More receives a 78% pension for 12 years of teaching based on a salary in her/his last year in the classroom of $78,912. The writer cites no source for the information, and as a retired teacher I am concerned that readers will take this claim as fact. Please consider the following: teacher retirement in the State of California is administered by the state, not by school districts. It is based on teacher age at retirement, number of years taught, and birthdate. Here is an estimate of what a California teacher might receive based on the profile the writer uses. It is based on the formula as I came to understand it in going through my own retirement process. Using the writer's data, here is what a California teacher might receive If she/he retires this June with 12 years of experience, a birthdate of 1946 and an age at retirement of 64 years and seven moths, her/his retirement stipend would be approximately $1,869.89 per month or $22,438.68 per annum. That equates to 28% of final compensation, not the 78% that the writer decries.

Good teachers of course matter and I think most of them are quite good. I have kids at SRVHS andRead More CWMS and for the most part am pleased with how professional they are. Sometimes though we do run into a bad one. When that happens my kids are strong enough to work through it and be fine but the weakers ones suffer. In our school system it is MUCH easier for the teachers because you have VERY involved parents. We are a team and work with eachother. I hate the teachers union but respect the teachers. I also think there are many things we could do to improve things for students and teachers but we lack the backbone to do it.

First of all, not every American can buy and own a gun. Our constitution gives those that can theRead More right to do so. Sure you may be able to,with the help of liberal progressives, ban certain types of weapons. To ban all guns you would have to change the constitution. That will never happen period nor should it.
