Little League to Receive Free New Roof

A local roofing company is donating work to Rosemont Little League.

As 's equipment manager found out this winter, rain is the enemy of a shed full of chalk and fertilizer–especially when the roof leaks.

Luckily, when Dennis Gallagher called a Sacramento roofing company, they offered to fix the league's leaky roof for free.

Monday morning, two men with Gudgel Yancey Roofing set to work tearing off dry-rotted boards and waterproofing the equipment building behind Albert Einstein Middle School.

"We've been in this neighborhood since 1988, so we thought we'd do a little something to give back," Executive Vice President Stephen Reiland said.

The job, which will be completed next week once the rain passes, would normally cost about $3,000, Reiland said. He estimated that the existing roof on the building was 23 or 24 years old.

Gallagher said paying for the job would take up the league's entire annual equipment budget.

Rosemont Little League President Tina Klostermann said she was grateful for the donation.

"I am overwhelmed by the donation Yancy Roofing is giving our league," Klostermann said in an email. "This will help RLL for many more seasons to come."

Even though the Gudgel Yancey Roofing is located southwest of Rosemont on 84th Street, Reiland said he had a lot of friends in Rosemont when he was growing up.

"Those are all my friends," he said, referring to the .

He also said with four daughters who have played softball and volleyball, he's been in the shoes of the parent-volunteers on the Rosemont Little League Board of Directors.

"All the dads, we'd have to get together and do stuff like this," he said.
