LAPCATS Reaches 1,000 Adoptions

The volunteer group works with the Sacramento County Animal Shelter and PetSmart in Elk Grove.

LAPCATS, a Sacramento-area feline rescue group staffed by volunteers, has helped 1,000 cats find new homes.

The group announced the milestone last week, when the 1,000th kitty found a "forever" home, as volunteers call it when a shelter animal is adopted.

In a press release, LAPCATS founder and coordinator Barbara Doty said the milestone, coming after seven years of placing cats with new owners, was reaffirmation of the group's work.

"Our goal has never been the quantity of animals we place, but the quality of homes we place them in," said Doty.
