Evangelist Visit to Capital Christian Will Launch 'Season of Service'

Luis Palau will speak at the church four times on Sunday.

An Argentina-born evangelist will speak at this Sunday, marking Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the launch of an area-wide volunteer push.

Luis Palau, who is based in Portland, will speak at the three morning services of the Micron Avenue church and at a 5:30 p.m. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration.

His visit will also start the "Season of Service," where local groups can list their needs online for volunteer groups and churches to tackle. The area-wide effort will end in June, when the Luis Palau Sacramento Festival is held at Cal Expo. The two-day festival will include Christian music and extreme sports performances.

As of Tuesday, some of the needs listed on the festival website include a call for volunteers at a free clinic day in Roseville, requests for mentors and a Citrus Heights group that needs a gas stove.
