Today is a Spare the Air Day in the Sacramento Region
Try to limit your driving to help lower pollution during Spare the Air days.
Rosemont residents might want to re-consider long runs or any yardwork today — today is a Spare the Air day in the Sacramento region. It's the first advisory in the area for 2012, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District.
A Spare the Air advisory is issued when the Air Quality Index is expected to reach more than 127 for ground-level ozone pollution. According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District website, we may see an AQI of 137 in the Roseville and Sacramento area, which can be "unhealthy for sensitive groups."
According to the Spare the Air website, when the Air Quality Index reaches unhealthy levels, it’s important for people, especially children, to limit extended outdoor exertion. Children and adults with respiratory diseases, like asthma, should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion all together.

How can you help Spare the Air?
- Drive less — Take the bus whenever possible
- Carpool — Take turns driving to work, the gym, anywhere with a carpool buddy
- Take public transit
- Avoid aerosol products — Solids, sticks and gel cleaners, hair products and antiperspirants are more environmentally friendly
- BBQ with gas — Forget the charcoal lighter fluid; use an electric starter or a propane gas grill
