What Are Your Top 49ers Super Bowl Memories?

The Niners are undefeated in their past five Super Bowls. Now that they have a chance at a sixth, what are the best moments from years past?

It's official: having defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC championship game, the 49ers are headed to their sixth Super Bowl against the Baltimore Ravens.

They're going there with the force of a powerful legacy: they've won every previous Super Bowl they've played, in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1995. Can Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans be next?

Since we've got a couple weeks to cool our heels before the big game, a little reminiscence is in order. We want to know: What are your top 49ers Super Bowl memories? Tell us in the comments section below.

The Super Bowl is Sunday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. and will air on CBS-TV.

Rather than dwelling on past glories, I'm concerned about what they're going to do for a kicker in the Super Bowl. Their roster doesn't show a second or backup kicker, so do they plan on winning the Super Bowl without ever trying for an extra 1 - 3 points with a place kicker? Why no backup? This has been an issue for their past 13 games (now 14 games). At what point do they notice there's a problem with the current kicker and DO SOMETHING about it?

Although that wasn't in a Super Bowl, that's probably the single greatest play in 49ers history ... agree?

I have 2 good memories. The first one is the goal line stand in the first Super Bowl vs. the Bengals. And the second one is the pass to John Taylor also against the Bengals in SuperBowl XXIII.

I have two 49er related Super Bowl memories, and neither had anything to do with the on-field game. In Super Bowl XVI Linebacker Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds had to relieve himself mid second period and rather than run into the locker room he had his teammates gather around him on the side lines. They were standing there, backs to him watching the game, when they realized that the back of their legs were getting wet. Too funny. And Super Bowl XIX was being played at Stanford. I was returning from a business trip, flew into SJO mid day and drove home through the foggy mist that day to arrive just in time to watch the game being played only a few miles away.

that game vs. the bengals in 1989, i still remember the chills.

I actually felt bad for the Bengals coach in that game back in 1989. He was something like 20 seconds away from winning the Superbowl. But as Chris Collinsworth said, as long as Number 16 is on the field, the game is not over. And of course, we know what happened next. The look on that coach's face was something that I will never forget when the Niners scored. And as soon as John Taylor caught that winning pass, I picked the phone up and called in sick at work. Instead we headed to Broadway and celebrated our win in typical SF mayhem style! Go NIners!!!

I was living in Alaska when The Catch took place and had not watched football before. Was only watching because I was homesick for San Francisco where I had been living. Well, got totally into the game watching Joe Montana and the team. When The Catch happened, I think I levitated off the sofa!!! That moment is seared into my brain to this day.

My favorite football play of all time is Danny Bunz' tackle during the SB 16 goal line stand mentioned above. Picture perfect tackle on a swing pass to the flat. If it hadn't been perfect, the back would have fallen forward into the end zone because contact occurred at the half-yard line.

Super Bowl XXIV, Jan. 28, 1990: 49ers 55, Broncos 10 - In the Superdome, Montana picked up his third SB MVP by throwing for five TDs - three to Rice - as the 49ers humbled Denver and John Elway.

Looks like to me...next year.

The first SB win was the most amazing and capped a really improbable season. Going from 6-10 to 13-3 in one season without a running game and really implementing the west coast offense which at that time was a highly sophisticated short passing gaem and it was a team that didn't have a winning season for quite a while so it is hard to beat.

The catch is always at the Top.. but for a SB Montana to Taylor to beat Cincy the second time after the Randy Cross Holding penalty.. Oh and a quick overlooked one was the FIRST, okay the FIRST pass from Young to Montana vs San Diego in 95
'.. It was like a 65 yd TD.. I was like um, okay I think we have this won easy.. Haa

The greatest play in Forty Niner history was the 4th and 1 ft defensive stop that culminated the goal line stand in the 3rd Q of Superbowl 16 against the Bengals.

All great memeories by everyone thus far. My family is in it's 64th consecutive year aa a season tix holder and we were fortunate to have attended three. In New Orleans in 1990 the restaurants were so crowded, you had to share tables and we were lucky to sit with Denver fans the day before for lunch and dinner. All they could say was how everybody in Denver knew they were going to lose and that they were just happy to be there. Final score: 55-10.

The Marks of this world are too blind to facts to bother arguing with. He thinks 4 generation ofRead More welfare and more people on food stamps then ever before in history is progress! What's the point acknowledging such absurd nonsense? Don't bother Roberto, complete waste of effort.

Nobody likes debt or an economy that is limping along. Obama has done an admirable job consideringRead More what he's had to put up with. The deficit has been reduced considerably. Stock market is as high as ever. Unemployment is still a big problem. Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs. Our bridges are falling apart. How about we invest in fixing our crumbling infrastructure, get those people back to work, get them spending, stimulate this economy. Oh, that's right, if Obama is for it, the opposition will automatically be against it (even if it's their idea!) .

Here we go - perfect example of a blind koolaid drinker. Listen to this: "The deficit has beenRead More reduced considerably" REALLY, then why has it doubled in the last few years? What planet are you from? "Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs." then "Obama has done an admirable job"....HELLOOOOOO! You can't have it both ways. My god we are lost if this is the mentality that is voting now - totally lost. I wish these types were routed out of the gene pool when things were tough and they would simply perish from stupidity. Now days thing are so easy they thrive and reproduce. Watch in 10 years how GREAT things are, just watch.
