Battenberg to Offer Summer Basketball Camps at CCHS

The coach will offer training camps this summer at the Rosemont school.

's new head basketball coach is wasting no time making himself at home at his new school.

Terry Battenberg, a well-known local coach , will hold two basketball skills camps this summer.

The first, an "Advanced Big Man Camp" Battenberg has been holding for 20 years, is set for June 21 - June 23 at Capital Christian High School.

It's intended for big guards, big forwards and post players in grades nine though 12, and will teach rebounding, shot blocking, defensive moves, dunking skills and more, according to a flier.

"We've had a lot of guys go on to play college ball after it," Battenberg said. "We've even had some play pro."

Casey Arent, a former attendee of Battenberg's camp who will play for the University of Oklahoma next year, will help teach at the camp.

The second camp is an "essential skills training" camp for grades six through nine, scheduled for July 5 - July 8.

Battenberg said the essential skills camp is intended for "anybody that wants to play basketball eventually" and "anybody that wants to get better," including middle school students hoping to play in high school. The camp will teach passing, shooting, dribbling, defense and other fundamental skills.

"It's an Australian, international-type training," he said.

The registration fee for the "Advanced Big Man Camp" is $99, and the "Essential Skills Training" camp will cost $60. To register, visit Battenberg's website at www.coachbattenberg.com.

UPDATE, May 27: Battenberg said he has changed his essential skills camp to include grades six through nine.

"Some parents asked if I would include 9th graders too, so I have made that change," he said in an email.
