Video: Pritchett Takes Place on School Board

Rosemont PTA President Christina Pritchett was elected to the Sacramento City Unified School Board in November.

Rosemont resident Christina Pritchett took her place on the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education Thursday, surrounded by her two kids and sworn in by her husband.

"It was a long, hard battle, but we prevailed in the end and now the true work begins," Pritchett said.

Her swearing in can be seen in the video above from the district at about the 10-minute mark.

She will represent Rosemont, College Greens and parts of Rancho Cordova as the district's Area 3 representative. Pritchett replaces Donald Terry, who has been on the school board since 2008 and was sworn into the Rancho Cordova City Council last week.

"If any of you care any about public education … the first thing you need to be for is kids and getting them the resources they need to succeed," Terry said. "The state is drastically underfunding our children."

His remarks begin in the above video at the 5 minute, 22 second mark.

Looking back on his four years on the school board, Terry said his biggest mistake was voting against the search for a superintendent that eventually yielded Superintendent Jonathan Raymond. He bemoaned the massive cuts that have taken place across the district, but praised the fact that the district has "still been able to move this district forward and create new ideas and new ways of teaching children."

Terry now moves to a seat on the Rancho Cordova City Council, although he won by only three votes and his opponent is now seeking a recount.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
