Schools to Offer Welcoming Festivities on First Day

All Sacramento City Unified School District campuses will hold celebrations Tuesday morning.

Rosemont students will receive a warm welcome on their first day of school Tuesday morning.

All Sacramento City Unified School District campuses will hold "Sacramento Goes Back to School" events to open the 2011-12 school year.

"All of our schools are having something on the first day–ranging from balloons and banners to coffee and orange juice," district spokeswoman Janet Weeks said in an email. "The elementary schools tend to go far cuter than the high schools."

The annual event is designed to build enthusiasm and increase community involvement.

"When the first day of school becomes a community-wide celebration and social event, everyone feels welcome," the district's said on its website. "First day can be an opportunity for parents to show through their presence how important school is and gives employers an opportunity to demonstrate that education is important enough that they allow working parents to participate."
