Sacramento County Board of Education Makes Provisional Appointment of Trustee

Thomaysa Glover Chosen to Represent Area 5

Prepared release

The Sacramento County Board of Education provisionally appointed Thomaysa Glover as Trustee for Area 5 at its meeting on August 20. She fills the seat that was made vacant following the July 3 resignation of former Area 5 Trustee Penny Schwinn.

Mrs. Glover, a resident of Gold River, is a former Trustee for the San Juan Unified School District who has served as a regional director for the California School Boards Association. She is President of the Sacramento chapter of Links, Incorporated, a not-for-profit volunteer service organization.

She has a Masters in Governance from the California School Boards Association and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Hampton University, Hampton VA.

“The applicants for the Trustee Area 5 position included so many remarkable and inspiring community leaders. Their passion for education was evident and heartwarming and the decision was a difficult one,” said Board of Education President Jacquelyn Levy. “I am confident that Mrs. Glover possesses all the attributes to make a positive difference for the students and families of Sacramento County and look forward to her joining the Board."

This provisional appointment is effective immediately and shall continue until the end of the term in June 2014, unless a petition calling for a special election pursuant to Education Code Section 5091 is filed in the office of the County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days (bySeptember 19, 2013) of the provisional appointment.

Unless there is a special election pursuant to a petition under Education Code Section 5091, the person appointed to fill the Area 5 Trustee vacancy will hold office until the next regularly scheduled Board election in June 2014.

Area 5 represents the following communities of Alder Creek, Bridge House, Folsom, Gold River, Mather, Mills, Natoma, Nimbus, Rancho Cordova, Rancho Murieta, Rosemont, Sloughhouse, Walsh Station, and a portion of Vineyard.

School districts: small portions of Elk Grove Unified, Sacramento City Unified, and San Juan Unified, and all of Folsom Cordova Unified.
