Ayers said Villanova, which is just outside Philadelphia, also has one of the top 10 engineering schools in the country, which piqued her interest. The thought of playing the Big East Conference, where opponents include Georgetown and Connecticut, also drew her to the university.

As for Rosemont Softball, the spring season begins in February.

"Most likely, we'll be league champions again," said Ayers, adding that Rosemont has won the title the past four years.

Ayers also plays on a traveling team called the California Breeze, which practices year-round. The team's last tournament of the year is around Thanksgiving.

Meanwhile, Ayers said she enjoys the Rosemont High community.

"Since it just pretty much opened up, it's still building up, so we students get to make the traditions," she said. "The teachers are helpful... and the seniors won the spirit competition for homecoming."

Ayers said her favorite subject is math.

"I'm taking calculus now," she said. "I've just always been good at math."
