Halloween events for kids about at our libraries

Looking for someplace scary to bring your kids for Halloween—but not too scary? We’ve got lots of just-frightening-enough events for all ages all across our library system.

See a show featuring puppets or live bats, do arts and crafts, and learn more about our One Book author, Edgar Allan Poe. Our events through November 2:

·         Wednesday, October 16, 3:30 p.m., Nevermore: The Raven Halloween Banner (6-12), Sylvan Oaks Library. Hear a reading and help create an artistic banner.

·         Thursday, October 17, 4 p.m., The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with the Puppet Company (6-12), North Highlands-Antelope Library. A puppet show based on the famous story.

·         Thursday, October 17, 4 p.m., Make a Shadow Puppet Theater (6-12), Orangevale Library. Kids can make puppets based on the famous Edgar Allan Poe poem “Annabel Lee.”

·         Friday, October 18, 2013, 4 p.m., Bats: Myths & Facts (6-12), Rancho Cordova Library. Corky Quirk of NorCal Bats will tell kids about bats—and show them some live ones.

·         Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 3:30 p.m., Bats at the Library (6-12), North Natomas Library. Corky Quirk of NorCal Bats tells about bats and the myths that surround them.

·         Tuesday, October 22, 4 p.m., Nevermore: The Raven Halloween Banner (6-12), Rancho Cordova Library. Hear a reading and help create an artistic banner.

·         Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 6 p.m., NorCal Bats @ Fair Oaks (Family/all ages), Fair Oaks Library. Learn about the importance of bats in our environment.

·         Tuesday, October 23, 2013, 3:30 p.m., Bats @ Belle Cooledge (Family/all ages), Belle Cooledge Library. Learn about the fascinating world of bats.

·         Thursday, October 24, 3:30 p.m., “Frankenswine” with Puppet Arts Theater (Family/all ages), Sylvan Oaks Library. We are delighted to welcome back Puppet Art Theater Co. for a great show! Presenting “Frankenswine”: A zany version of the classic “Frankenstein” told by a cast of puppet pigs.

·         Thursday, October 24, 4 p.m., Anabel Lee Shadow Puppets, (Family/all ages), Valley Hi-North Laguna Library.  Teachers from ArtBeast Studio will read Edgar Allan Poe's poem Anabel Lee, and help kids make shadow puppets for their own performance of the poem.

·         Friday, October 25, 10:45 a.m., House of Poe (6-12), Isleton Library. Kids will draw a house with pop-out windows with different words, characters or images from Poe stories and poems inside the windows.

·         Friday, October 25, 4 p.m., NorCal Bats Halloween Program (Family/all ages), Southgate Library. Corky Quirk of NorCal Bats will tell kids about bats—and show them some live ones.

·         Friday, October 25, 4 p.m., Make Your Own Zombie (Family/all ages), Del Paso Heights Library. Make your own Zombie Kokeshi Dolls!

·         Saturday, October 26, 11:30 a.m., Make a Shadow Puppet with Artbeast (Family/all ages), Pocket-Greenhaven Library. Kids can make puppets based on the famous Edgar Allan Poe poem “Annabel Lee.”

·         Wednesday, October 30, 3:30 p.m., Scared Silly with Artworks, (Family/all ages), Elk Grove Library. Halloween fun, food and crafts with ArtWorks! Additional parking can be found south of the library at Journey Church, located at 9645 Elk Grove Florin Road.

·         Wednesday, October 30, 4 p.m., “Frankenswine” with Puppet Arts Theater (Family/all ages), Carmichael Library. A zany version of the classic “Frankenstein” as told by a cast of puppet pigs.

·         Wednesday, October 30, 6 p.m., Nevermore: The Raven Halloween Banner (6-12), North Sacramento-Hagginwood Library. Hear a reading and help create an artistic banner.

·         Thursday, October 31, 11 a.m., Spooky Hansel & Gretel (Family/all ages), McKinley Library. Puppet Art Theater's spooky version of the classic "Hansel and Gretel" tale!

·         Thursday, October 31, 4 p.m., Treasure Mapmaking (Family/all ages), Rancho Cordova Library. Celebrate Halloween with a treasure hunt like in the story of “The Gold Bug” by Edgar Allan Poe. Wear a costume!

·         Friday, November 1, 4 p.m., Day of the Dead @ Courtland (Family/all ages), Del Paso Heights Library. We will be celebrating the Day of the Dead by decorating sugar skulls.

·         Friday, November 1, 4 p.m., Sugar Skulls @ Southgate (Family/all ages), Southgate Library. We will be celebrating the Day of the Dead by decorating sugar skulls.

·         Friday, November 1, 4 p.m., Sugar Skulls @ Sylvan Oaks (Family/all ages), Sylvan Oaks Library. Celebrate Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead by making decorative skulls out of sugar, royal icing and sequins.

·         Saturday, November 2, 2 p.m., Dia de los Mortes/Day of the Dead Crafts (Family/all ages), Del Paso Heights Library. Put your design on plastic and shrink it to make Shrinky Dink Jewelry like pins, bracelets and broaches.

·         Saturday, November 2, 2 p.m., Shrink Plastic Skulls @ Galt Library (Family/all ages), Galt Library. Use skull templates to create beautiful designs on plastic with Sharpie markers which will be then be "shrunk" in the toaster oven.
