Looking for someplace to take the kids this December? Or maybe you know you’ll be looking after some nieces, nephews or grandkids—and you have no idea how to keep them occupied.

Well, we’ve got an early present for you this year: a list of holiday events for kids and families at our branches all across Sacramento.

December 5, 4 p.m. Thursday, Winter Holiday Crafts for Kids (6-12), North-Highlands Antelope Library. Create holiday ornaments and gifts with everyday recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, CDs, beads and junk jewelry.

 

December 5, 4 p.m. Thursday, “The Nutcracker” puppet show, (family/all ages), North Natomas. The tale of young Clara, who rescues her toy Nutcracker from the evil Mouse King.

 

December 7, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Holiday Party/Boy Who Cried Wolf, (family/all ages), McKinley Library. The annual McKinley Holiday party will include The Puppet Art Theater Company presenting "The Boy Who Cried Wolf," an updated zany version of the classic tale.

 

December 7, 2 p.m. Saturday, Holiday Wreaths, (family/all ages), McClatchy Library. Have some family fun making pine cone holiday wreaths. Pine cones, foam wreaths, glue and some guidance will all be provided.

 

December 7, 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Cookies with Santa, (family/all ages), Fair Oaks Library. Join us for fun holiday crafts, cookies and a chance to meet Santa! This event is presented in partnership with Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District. Pre-registration is required.

 

December 11, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, “Peter and the Wolf” puppet show, (family/all ages), Sylvan Oaks Library. Performed by The Fratello Marionettes

 

December 11, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Natomas Tree Lighting, (family/all ages), South Natomas Library. Enjoy the beautiful Christmas tree, refreshments, music and more.

 

December 13, 4 p.m. Friday, Marshmallow Snowmen, (family/all ages), Rancho Cordova Library. Build a marshmallow snowman to celebrate the winter season!

 

December 13, 4 p.m. Friday, Gingerbread Houses, (family/all ages), Southgate Library. Make delightful gingerbread houses using graham crackers and candy decorations!

December 14, 2 p.m. Saturday, Holiday Cards, (family/all ages), Carmichael Library. Make holiday cards for your family and friends! We will supply craft materials and holiday treats.

 

December 14, 2 p.m. Saturday, Holiday Stamp Card Program, (family/all ages), McClatchy Library. Come on in and have fun making holiday/winter-themed cards with a range of fun rubber stamps. We'll provide the paper, stamps and decorations.

 

December 14, 2 p.m. Saturday, Holiday Card Making, (family/all ages), South Natomas Library.
The library will provide paper, rubber stamps, ink pads, stickers, glitter glue and other craft supplies. Just bring your creativity!

 

December 14, 2 p.m. Saturday, Holiday Card Crafts, (family/all ages), Southgate Library.
We will have lots of fun designs and supplies to help inspire you this holiday season.

 

December 14, 3 p.m. Saturday, Candy Cane Animals, (family/all ages), North Highlands Antelope Library. Use delicious candy canes and craft supplies to make mice, reindeer, or whatever else your imagination can come up with.

 

December 14, 21 and 28, 2 p.m. Saturdays, Make Quilled Cards, (family/all ages), Valley Hi North Laguna Library. Perfect for the Holidays, perfect for all year-round. As easy or as complicated and fancy as you want!

 

December 15, 1 p.m. Sunday, Family Sundays @ Central - Holiday Concert with Francie Dillon, (family/all ages), Central Library. Family favorite Dillon and Puppet Art Theater will delight with songs and stories to celebrate the season. Music begins at 2 p.m.

 

December 18, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Cookie Decorating Party, (family/all ages), Courtland Library. Come decorate yummy holiday cookies at the library! We'll provide all the supplies, you bring the creative genius.

 

December 19, 4 p.m. Thursday, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf: Holiday Version” with Puppet Art Theater, (6-12), Arcade Library. Join us for an updated zany holiday version of a classic tale.

 

December 20, 3:30 p.m. Friday, Winter Break Open House, (teen), South Natomas Library. Come hang out with friends in front of the crackling fire, have some hot cider and cookies, play some old-school board games, and pick up a good book to read over the holidays!

 

December 20 and 27, 4 p.m. Fridays, Last Minute Gifts, (teen), Sylvan Oaks Library. Materials available with countless more inspirations for your crafty holiday.

December 21, 2 p.m. Saturday, Holiday Card Making, (family/all ages), Arcade Library. A chance to make cards for your friends and family. Materials provided.

December 21, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Uncle Al’s Magic Show, (family/all ages), McKinley Library. Uncle Al makes things appear, disappear and sometimes go wrong, only to be turned into a surprise for everyone.
