May is Bike Month: Want to Bicycle on a Closed County Road?

Part of Scott Road, east of Rosemont, will be closed this weekend to make way for bicyclists and pedestrians.

A scenic Sacramento County road about 15 miles east of Rosemont will be closed off to everyone except bicyclists and pedestrians this weekend.

The event, part of the region's May is Bike Month events, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 6, and will take place on an eight-mile stretch of Scott Road between Latrobe and White Rock roads.

“Closing Scott Road for this event is part of Sacramento County’s support of Bike Month activities," a press release quoted Mike Penrose, Director of the Sacramento County Department of Transportation, as saying. "It’s a beautiful rural road and is truly a joy to travel on, especially on a bike.  We encourage all cyclists and pedestrians to take the time to come out for the Scott Road Bike & Walk Event.”

The press release describes the road as having "rolling hills, lush vegetation and impressive views of the Sierra Nevada mountains."

Attendees can enter the road from either direction, but parking is only available at the intersection of Scott and Latrobe roads (the southern end).
