Supervisors to Consider Grants, Long List of Labor Contracts

A quick look at some of the items before the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors this week.

When the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday, its members will discuss about 10 items. But add in the items quietly approved without discussion and letters sent to the board, and the list jumps to more than 50.

Here are some of the smaller items from Tuesday's agenda that may be relevant to Rosemont:

Sheriff's department receives grants

At this week's meeting of the board of supervisors, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department will ask for approval to receive the following grants:

  • $145,000 from the California Emergency Management Agency's "Project Safe Neighborhoods" Task Force, which focuses on "the federal prosecution of all armed career criminals, armed drug traffickers and felons in possession of firearms." The grant will reimburse an existing deputy position for the period of Oct. 1, 2010 - Sept. 30, 2011.
  • Up to $15,000 per officer per year from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for any overtime or expense costs working on a task force to combat "violent transnational street gangs."

New Verizon cell antennas on Cal Center Drive

A large office complex north of Folsom Boulevard may soon receive three new cell phone antennas. The building, located at 8880 Cal Center Dr., received approval for 12 cell antennas in 2005. This addition would bring the current total up to seven.

Recap of probation and juvenile hall contracts

In the second half of last year, the Sacramento County Probation Department signed three new contracts with outside vendors, according to a letter presented to the board of supervisors earlier this month. The vendors are:

Mihaljevic Soccer School, Inc. Nov. 17, 2010 - June 30, 2011 $7,600 "Provide a soccer training program for residents at [juvenile hall]." Wohlford Consulting Jan. 27, 2011 - June 30, 2011 $42,000 "Provide a full cost of services study to the Sacramento County Probation Department; Original contract amended to extend through 6/30/11 and increase maximum amount by $8,550."

Bus station at Watt will receive overhaul

The Sacramento Regional Transit station at Watt Avenue will receive an update as part of , and the supervisors this week will receive an update on the new design. See the attached PDF files for copies of that design.

After the board's Tuesday meeting, it will discuss labor negotiations with the following groups:
