Speak Cantonese, Mandarin or Spanish? The County Has a Job For You

Sacramento County is seeking precinct officers for the June 5 election.

The Sacramento County Elections Office is preparing for the statewide June 5 election, and needs more precinct workers who speak Cantonese, Mardarin or Spanish.

These workers staff polling places, and are paid $100 for working from 6 a.m. to about 10 p.m., according to a press release. First-time precinct workers also earn $25 to attend a training class.

"To serve as a precinct officer you must be a United States citizen, California resident, registered voter, able to read and write English, and are at least 18 years of age," the office said in a press release. "Persons on parole for the conviction of a felony may not serve as a precinct officer."

The precinct officers issue and collect ballots, assist voters, and "prepare, open, maintain and close the polling place," the county says on its website.

People interested in working as a precinct officer are encouraged to call 916-875-6100 or visit the county elections office's website for more information.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
