Sacramento County Probation Department employees donated more than $1,500 of their own money to buy turkeys for the less fortunate, and the idea came from a staffer who had just been demoted because of budget cuts.
To Sacramento County Chief Probation Officer Don Meyer, it's a testament to the kind of employees in his department.
"It just speaks highly of the nature of the people that are employed here," Meyer said.
Probation department employees will pick up about 150 turkeys from Costco Friday morning and deliver them to the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services.
Assistant Chief Deputy Dave Semon said the donation is part of KCRA's annual Turkey Drive 8000.
"I'm just really proud to be able to work here with the staff at this facility, but at the same time, I'm not surprised at the turnout so far," Semon said.
