The new Sacramento County Executive has been busy redecorating.
, who was recently recruited from Riverside, has spent $21,000 on furniture at his county office.
The Sacramento Bee reports his purchases have included a $7,300 desk, a few tables, conference chairs and "linen wall coverings."
Hudson defended the spending, saying he wanted to create an "open-door" environment.
"I wanted something that was appropriate for the work that we do," Hudson told the Bee. "It's not extravagant. I just want people to feel like they can come in."
Others the Bee spoke with were less supportive of the purchases. Sacramento County, which has been in recent years, may not be making the best choice by spending this money, a past president of the local chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees told the Bee.
