Little League to Boycott CRPD Meeting on Fees, Will Attend Board Meeting

What if they called a special meeting and no one came?

The Cordova Recreation and Park District is planning a meeting for Monday to hear the concerns of Rosemont Little League officials upset by a field rental fee increase, but the little league says it's not coming.

"We're not going to break any new ground," League Treasurer Dennis Gallagher said. "We already know what their position is."

That position, league officials say, is increasing the annual field rental fee from $50 to $2,000. Gallagher said the league was informed of the fee increase in February, after it had already collected this year's registration fees.

The park district's Monday meeting is scheduled to be an informal town hall to discuss the cost increase, and district board members may or may not be present. Gallagher said the little league plans to instead attend the regular Cordova Recreation and Park District board meeting a couple days later, and air its concerns during the public comment time.

He said the little league wants to "speak directly to the policy makers there."

A letter from league president Tina Klostermann, dated Saturday, asks parents and kids to come to the meeting dressed in team garb.

"We hope you will stand with us next week to show we are a united community," Klostermann wrote. "We have no patience for anyindividual or group that places children or community second to the almighty dollar."

An official from the Cordova Recreation and Park District has not yet responded to a request for comment.
