First Campaign Event for Rosemont School Board Candidate

Rosemont's Christina Pritchett is having an ice cream social next week.

It may be her first political campaign, but Christina Pritchett doesn't seem nervous.

The Rosemont resident, , is holding an ice cream social as her first campaign event July 16 at SafetyVille USA.

And even though she's running for public office for the first time, Pritchett, who is president of the parent-teacher associations at Rosemont High School and Albert Einstein Middle School, said she's eager to begin campaigning.  "I'm not really nervous. I'm just really excited to get in and learn the basics," she said.

Pritchett said she was inspired to run after a frustrating experience with Rosemont High administrators who held back her son from graduating.  That ordeal made Pritchett, whose daughter will be a freshman at Rosemont next year, wonder if other kids were slipping through cracks in the district's system.

"It's really surprising to me," she said.  "I find that lots of people send their kids outside the district.  I want to know why and what we can do to fix it."

Pritchett is hoping to represent Area 3 on the school board, which includes Rosemont, College Greens, La Riviera, parts of Rancho Cordova and other areas.  If successful, she would replace board trustee Donald Terry, .

Besides the upcoming event next week, Pritchett said she plans on canvassing different neighborhoods in Rosemont, going door to door later this summer to drum up support for her campaign.  So far, Pritchett said she isn't sure who is running against her, as the deadline for candidates to file for the November election isn't until August 10.

The ice cream social is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m on July 16.  For more information, contact Pritchett at pritchett4scusd@yahoo.com or call (916) 716-8546.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
