There are few indications that a small Chihuahua mix bouncing around an office at the Sacramento County Animal Shelter was recently the subject of a court case.
But that dog, Shadow, was physically and sexually abused by a man temporarily living with the owner, according to the Sacramento Bee. That man, 55-year-old Robert DeShields, on Friday was sentenced to 10 years in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender, the Sacramento Bee reported.
County animal control officers brought the case to the district attorney's office, the Bee reported.
Shadow is still recovering and receiving rehabilitation from county staff.
