CRPD Employee Shot and Killed, District Shuts Down

The man found dead Monday morning was a park district employee, according to media reports.

A man found shot to death Monday morning at Hagan Park was a Cordova Recreation and Park District employee, local news outlets are reporting.

Fox40 and CBS Sacramento identified the victim as Park Superintendent Steve Ebert.

He was found dead behind the wheel of a running car around 6 a.m., according to media reports.

"Interim Park Department Administrator Doug Critchfield told FOX40 that Ebert had been with the district 5 1/2 years and loved the outdoors," Fox40 reported. "Critchfield also said that Ebert was a big family man."

The park district announced on its Facebook page that all of its facilities would be closed until 8 a.m. Wednesday.
