Bera Concerned Over Crisis in Syria

Congressman Ami Bera is asking his constituents to join him in voicing concerns about the crisis in Syria on his Facebook page.

Congressman Ami Bera has some concerns over a possible U.S. strike in Syria and is asking Sacramento residents under the 7th Congressional District, which includes Rosemont, Elk Grove, Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights and Carmichael, to join him in voicing concerns on his Facebook page.
Bera wrote:

As you probably have heard, President Obama is asking Congress to consider approving a U.S.-led military strike in Syria.

The President’s stated goal is to prevent Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from carrying out further attacks, and to deter others from using chemical weapons in the future.

I know Sacramento County residents have many concerns about this crisis. After the war in Iraq and with our continuing war in Afghanistan, Americans are rightly weary of war.

As a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Congress, I had the chance to discuss this issue in a hearing with President Obama’s national security team, including Secretaries Kerry and Hagel.

During the hearing, I shared with them the concerns I have been hearing from many of you - through your phone calls, letters, social media posts, and even at the grocery store.

I hope you will take a moment to visit my Facebook page to watch me question President Obama’s national security team and to share your views on Syria with me.

We must understand our goals and objectives in this increasingly complex situation.

But most importantly, Congress is set to vote on this matter next week, and I believe it is crucial for me to listen to you on this national security issue before I cast a vote.

Again, you can click here to visit my Facebook page to watch me discuss the crisis in Syria with President Obama’s national security team, and then feel free to let me know where you stand.

Listening to you is my most important responsibility.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Be well,
Ami Bera, M.D.
Member of Congress

Now we put the question up to Sacramento residents. Should the U.S. be involved in this crisis? Why or why not?
