Association Recognizes Juvenile Hall Staffer

Michelle Pearson has collected thousands in donations for youth.

A Sacramento County probation assistant who collected donations to operate clothes closets for local foster children and probationers is being recognized for her work.  

was recently named the 2011 Juvenile Institution Staff Member of the Year by the California Probation, Parole and Correctional Association. An award will be presented at a conference in Universal City later this month.

"Her professionalism, dedication and creativity are an asset to the probation department and the youth we serve," Sacramento County Chief Probation Officer said in a statement.

County officials said Pearson, who has been with the department for 11 years, has "taken the initiative to ensure youth have basic necessities, unique recreational opportunities and experiences."

Pearson has collected more than $100,000 in donations for local youth during the past seven years, according to Sacramento County.
