Animal Shelter Waiving Late Fees for Licenses

Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation is offering "pet licensing amnesty" through October 31.

Sacramento County officials don't want to guilt-trip residents who have let their animal licenses lapse. In fact, they won't even charge a late fee.

From now until Oct. 31, will waive the $100 late fee for animal licenses. Online surcharges will also be waived.

  • Animal control officers will return lost licensed animals directly to the owner's home instead of taking them to the shelter
  • The pet's first impound fee will be waived if it's lost
  • The pet will be held longer at the shelter
  • Injured licensed animals can be taken directly to the owner's veterinarian of choice.

Licensing fees in unincorporated parts of the county start at $15 for spayed or neutered animals and $150 for unaltered pets. Click here to view a PDF flier with the full list of rates.

Licensing is available online, at the Sacramento County Animal Shelter on Bradshaw Road, by mail, at participating veterinarians or at county service centers. More information is available on the county's website.
