Update: Authorities Say Rosemont Homicide Victim Was Chased, Then Gunned Down

Alexander Chavez argued with a suspect or suspects before being killed on Jan. 17, authorities say.

Last week's fatal shooting in Rosemont came after the 21-year-old victim encountered the suspect or suspects and argued, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department crime log.

Alexander Brian Chavez, 21, was running errands on Jan. 17, the crime log states.

"While out, [Chavez] encountered a subject(s)," the department said. "[Chavez] and the subject(s) engaged in a verbal altercation and [Chavez] drove away. The subject(s) pursued [Chavez] in a vehicle and discharged a firearm at his vehicle multiple times, striking [Chavez]."

Chavez was driving northbound on Westporter Drive when he was killed, authorities said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

A suspect was arrested Tuesday night in the case: Michael Almeda, 19, faces one charge of murder. Sheriff's department officials are still investigating the possibility there may be other suspects in the case.
