Traffic Accident Sends Two to the Hospital with Major Injuries

The California Highway Patrol said speed played a role in the accident that occurred at the intersection of Kiefer Boulevard and Bradshaw Road.

A traffic accident at the intersection of Kiefer Boulevard and Bradshaw Road sent two people to the hospital with major injuries Thursday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said that Robert A. Chrisman Jr., 46, of Sacramento, drove south along Bradshaw Road just north of the Kiefer Boulevard intersection, in a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta.

The CHP said that Chrisman failed to negotiate a turn onto west Kiefer Boulevard because of a high rate of speed and violently collided with the front end of a 2001 Toyota Celica, driven by Alina A. Kissa, 20, of Sacramento.

Kissa was stopped at the light along Kiefer Boulevard in the no. 1 lane, when Chrisman collided with her. The impact forced her car into a 2001 International WORKSTAR 3-axle hoist type truck driven by Jason G. Germscheid, 37, of Sacramento, which was also stopped at the light next to Kissa.

"The front of the Volkswagen violently struck the left front area of the Toyota. This impact pushed the Toyota to the right into the International truck. The Toyota’s front end was wedged under the left portion of the International truck, directly behind the driver’s compartment," a CHP press release stated.

Chrisman sustained major injuries and became unconscious. Kissa also became unconscious.

Both Chrisman and Kissa were transported to local hospital by ground ambulances. Germscheid did not receive any injuries. All parties were wearing their seat belts.

Chrisman may have suffered a medical condition just prior to the collision, according to the CHP. Police say that he may have taken the turn at 65 miles per hour at the time of the accident.

This collision caused the eastbound lanes of Kiefer Boulevard to be closed for approximately one hour. The collision is still under investigation.
