Suspected Copper Thief Arrested in Rosemont

A 48-year-old man was arrested early this morning.

A man driving near Bradshaw and Goethe roads was arrested early Monday on suspicion of stealing copper wiring from a construction business, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.

Jeffery Wadleigh, 48, was pulled over around 1:30 a.m. because he was driving with expired tags, department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said.

"A search of the vehicle yielded copper wiring valued at several thousand dollars," the press released stated. "Further investigation by deputies later established that the wire had been stolen from a local construction business sometime over the weekend."

Ramos declined to state the name of the construction business for fear of future theft, but the press release said it was located in east Sacramento. The damage to that business was "estimated at several thousand dollars," according to the press release.

Wadleigh is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a felony charge of receiving stolen property and a charge of violating his parole. He's being held on $200,000 bail and is due in court Wednesday afternoon.
