Spring Break: Watch for Crime at Schools, SCUSD Says

Spring break is this week for the Sacramento City Unified School District.

Rosemont's public schools will be empty this week, and the Sacramento City Unified School District says that could lead to crime on those campuses.

“Most of our schools are surrounded by homes, and we need those neighbors to join us in protecting these valuable and sometimes vulnerable community centers,” a press release quoted Sacramento Police Lt. Katherine Lester, the district's head of security, as saying.

The district said schools are especially prone to copper theft, which is a trend that costs "money that most districts cannot afford to lose," according to a press release.
