Shots Fired and Arrest Made After Apartment Fight, Stabbing

A fight at an apartment complex escalated, ending with a stabbing and an arrest for allegedly firing a gun into the air.

An apartment complex melee Sunday night in Rosemont led to a man being stabbed in the leg and another being arrested for firing shots into the air, a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

The sheriff's department first responded to an apartment complex in the 9500 block of Cassandra Way after a caller reported a fight between five or six women at 6:43 p.m., Dep. Jason Ramos said.

The deputy didn't see anything major happening, and left. A few minutes later, the department received another call saying there was a large group of men and women fighting, Ramos said.

He said it appeared that during the first fight, a woman left and returned with a group of people "to try and get some 'revenge.' "

"Then an update came in that someone was stabbed," Ramos said in an email. He said the victim was stabbed in the leg, and was uncooperative with deputies at the scene.

"As several people fled the scene in different vehicles, a guy in a maroon Dodge Magnum fired some gunshots off (nobody was hit)," Ramos said.

The car was stopped around 7:13 p.m. near Mayhew Road and Micron Avenue, and the five people inside were detained.

"A gun was located under the front passenger seat, where 22 year-old Demonte Wallace was sitting," Ramos said. "It was determined that Wallace was the one who had fired the shots off, and he was arrested and taken to jail (he later posted $25,000 bail and has since been released)."

Ramos said it was hard to gauge how many people had been involved in the fight on Cassandra Way, but estimated it ranged somewhere between five and a dozen people.
