Short Car Chase Leads to Arrest of Parolee

Authorities report several recent incidents in the Rosemont area.

A parolee driving a stolen car led Sacramento County Sheriff's Department authorities on a short chase before being arrested Friday, according to a recent crime log.

Ernest Hovey, 39, was allegedly driving a Mazda that had been reported stolen on May 8.

Sheriff's department spokesman Jason Ramos said the car was spotted Friday evening at Folsom Boulevard and Mayhew Road, and Hovey led deputies on a seven-minute chase. Hovey bailed near Montoya Street and La Quinta Drive, and continued on foot. He was found a few minutes later hiding near a Norcade Circle apartment complex, Ramos said.

Hovey was found with a window punch and shaved car keys, according to the crime log. Deputies also found items in the vehicle that had been taken in a separate vehicle theft, which occurred on Thursday, the department said.

Hovey is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges of car theft, receiving stolen property and evading a police officer. He's also charged with resisting a police officer and violating his parole. Hovey is ineligible for bail, and is next due in court on Tuesday.
