School District Asks for Holiday Vigilance
The Sacramento City Unified School District is on break until Jan. 9.
The main item on the Sacramento City Unified School District's holiday wish list is safety for its schools.
The district is asking residents to keep an eye on local schools during winter break, which lasts until Jan. 9.
“Most of our schools are surrounded by homes, and we need those neighbors to join us in protecting these valuable and sometimes vulnerable community centers,” a press release quoted Sacramento Police Lt. Katherine Lester, the head of the district's security services, as saying.

The district is particularly concerned about the theft of copper, as well as vandalism.
Sacramento City Unified schools will be locked, alarmed and monitored by security cameras during the break, the press release said.

The district asks residents to report suspicious activity to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department at 916-874-5115, or to district security at 916-643-7444.
