An Amber Alert was issued for the pair late Monday night and pushed through many phones, including the iPhone 4S and 5. Several area residents from Sacramento to Sonoma County told us on Facebook they received the late night Amber Alert -- which made an alarm sound and startled many.

The Marin California Highway Patrol Twitter account told a Twitter user that Monday night’s Amber Alert was the first time one was pushed to smartphones in the Bay Area.

“It is important to get info out. It can be turned off on your phone. On iPhone it’s under settings then notifications,” Marin CHP officials wrote.

FEMA recently expanded the emergency alert system, according to the associated press.

Hannah Anderson is white, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 115 pounds; she has blonde hair and blue eyes. She has a navel ring, nose stud and pierced ears.

Ethan Anderson is white, 4 feet 11 inches tall and 65 pounds; he has sandy blonde hair.

The suspect is James Lee Dimaggio, a 40-year-old white man. He's 5 feet 9 inches, weighs 150 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

DiMaggio is accused of killing the children’s mother, Christina Anderson, who was found dead in the burning rubble of a home in Boulevard, California along with the body of an unidentified child, according to the Los Angeles Times. Boulevard is a rural community south of San Diego.

Dimaggio was last seen driving a blue Nissan Versa 4-door with a CA license plate No. 6WCU986.
