Sacramento Man Convicted of Rancho Cordova Slaying

A Sacramento man was found guilty of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of shooting from a vehicle and gun enhancements. 

Robert Vasquez was convicted of shooting Madalene Thomas on the morning of Sept. 12, 2010. Officers went to the intersection of Explorer Drive and Greensboro Circle in Rancho Cordova and discovered the body of Thomas inside a vehicle that was parked in a business complex in the area. 

The officers discovered that Thomas had a gunshot wound to her upper body and she was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. Police gathered evidence that pointed to Vasquez and the Sacramento District Attorney, Jan Scully, announced his conviction today.

Vasquez faces of life in prison without the possibility of parole. He is next scheduled in court for sentencing on Nov. 16.
