Police: Man Shoots, Kills Auto Store Clerk in Botched Robbery; Suspect Arrested

The incident happened Thursday night in the North Highlands area.

The following is a news release from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department:


Update 10 p.m.: 



Michael Eugene Addson, 26, has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for the murder of a 22-year old employee of O’Reilly Auto Part store during a thwarted robbery event last night (January 9, 2014) on Elkhorn Boulevard.

Sacramento Sheriff Homicide Detectives received information that a male with a stab wound had been brought in to a hospital within Sacramento County in need of medical treatment. Detectives were able to determine by evidence at the scene that Addson is the person responsible for the homicide. 

The victim’s name will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office upon notification of next of kin.

Last night (January 9, 2014) at approximately 7:15PM, an armed suspect walked into an auto parts business in the 4000 block of Elkhorn Boulevard and directed employees into the back room during an attempted robbery.  One employee, a 22-year old male, tried to thwart off the suspect and was able to stab him with a knife.  In return, the suspect shot the male employee and fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood from the injury.  The male employee was transported to a local hospital where he later died from the gunshot wound.    

 

Sacramento Sheriff Homicide Detectives received information that a male with a stab wound had been brought to another hospital within Sacramento County in need of medical treatment.  Detectives were able to determine by evidence at the scene that he is the person responsible for the robbery and homicide at the auto parts business.  He has been arrested and is currently being medically treated prior to being booked into the Main Jail.
