Motorcyclist Killed in Bradshaw Road Accident (Updated)

A fatal accident occurred Friday at about 7 p.m.

Updated: A male motorcyclist in his 30s was killed in a collision with an SUV near Bradshaw and Gore roads Friday evening, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said.

"A sport utility vehicle with a solo occupant was travelling westbound through the intersection, preparing to turn southbound on Gore Road," Ramos said in a press release. "The vehicle was struck by a motorcycle travelling northbound through the intersection at the same time."

Ramos said the driver of the SUV appeared to have the right of way, and had a green light. The driver of that vehicle was not injured, he said.

A spokesman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said that agency responded to the scene, but declined to comment as the sheriff's department and Rancho Cordova Police were leading the investigation into the incident.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Rancho Cordova Police Department's Traffic Unit at 916-875-9623.

Update: The Sacramento County Coronor's Office has identified the motorcyclist as 32-year-old Christopher S. Shurrum of Sacramento.

I was coming back from taking my wife and kids to dinner when a neighbor asked me if i knew a guy named Chris Shurrum. I advised yes, he is a friend and i have known him since Junior High. They then told me that he was killed in a motorcycle accident. I drove to his house where I met his mother and girlfriend and gave them my condolences. I haven't talked to Chris for about a month and I'm really going to miss him. I always felt he drove to fast so for those reading this please be safe when you get behind the wheel of your vehicle, Chris was and easy going guy and had many more years to live. Again my condolences to the family and I will pay my respects at the funeral. Michael

Sherry, I lost a friend nearly two years ago in Rancho Cordova on a motorcycle and he died in my arms. Something I will never forget and that changed me forever. Though he lay there still seemingly breathing with a faint heart beat for 14 minutes, his eyes never met mine and I assure you was not aware of his circumstances. He slowly faded while those minutes passed and more than one medical professional has assured me when faced with such trauma the body shuts down and some systems "wind down" till the end. I would rest assured it was over in an instant.

I too witnessed the immediate aftermath of the accident. I knew immediately he was gone. I just want to say to the family I stopped and stood on the sidewalk. I said some prayers for Chris, and for his family who I knew would shortly be suffering deeply with this loss. I wish you all the best as you grieve. Regards, Diana

I and my family are very sorry for your loss. My wife and daughter walk around the block and ad had just met your family, she is realy crazy about the motorcycle. About that intercection, it is very poorly set-up. With the drive-in there that intercection gets congested every tue and friday night. I have seen people parked in the middle of the street just because they have to wait in line to see a movie. Most people have no common sence when they have to "get somewhere" and are only concerned with themselves. Bottom line, slow down, dont be in such a hurry and remember that you are not the only one on the road. J. Patterson

by no way am i saying that it was the motorcyclests fault. The suv had no business turning left into the refinery except to get into the movies faster.
Krysten April 03, 2012 at 02:29 AM
I live around the corner from you, I walk around the block with my mom all the time. I used to joke about bein in love with the bike. I am very sorry for your loss. I dont know you or your family, but you are in my prayers.
Krysten April 03, 2012 at 02:33 AM
His family, and friends, DO NOT need your screwed up comments! Keep them to yourself please.
VREZH April 03, 2012 at 02:52 AM
J. maybe you should check your facts before posting. the driver was turning left out of the refinery not into the refinery and he's a coworker of mine working out of Kinder Morgan refinery as a fuel tanker driver and he was just getting off work .

Amber Glenn, get a life? Just who do you think you are you don't talk to somebody you don't know that way... I do have compassion for the family. At fault or not this is a sad situation

I am deeply hurt that not one person on here has acknowledged that Chris & I's son is without a father! I pray that God gives me all the right words to ease my sons pain!

What a terrible tragedy. May you rest in peace, Chris. My brother in-law arrived shortly after the accident. An off duty paramedic. He said someone wanted to remove his helmet but advised them not to do so, because he had already passed. It was nice to hear that people had prayed over him on the scene. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Chris.

Hi everyone, This is a terrible tragedy and I'd like to express my condolences to Chris' family and friends. That being said, please keep this discussion civil. I want to let everyone talk about this incident and remember Chris, but I don't want it to turn into a shouting match or a bunch of arguments. Thanks.
Mindy Green April 03, 2012 at 11:26 PM
I also want to say how sorry I am for his family and friends. May you have comfort and peace during this tragic time. We also want to wish peace to the SUV driver. This has to be an awful experience for him as well.

So sorry for your loss. I too knew Chris, as I grew up in that neighborhood & my husband & his brothers were friends with all the Shurrum boys.. Our deepest condolences go out to your family.. from The Morada's
Darryl Evans April 06, 2012 at 04:22 PM
the thing to remember is both are involved, one passed, another has to live with it for the rest of their life. so he pulled out while leaving work for the day, and was he not adhering to the rules of the road, like he does in his truck by looking both ways and looking for anything smaller than a Honda?? I have seen it many times in my career as a class A driver, I am currently on injured status, due to a crazy fool crossing over the center line in a curve on a 2 lane in the mountains above Grass Valley and almost hit 3 of us. he didn't stop, and I ended up 120 ft over the 80% edge in my truck trailer unit backwards, after the unit slamming into the inside wall dragged there by the trailers, which then trailers passed me. I should have hit him, maybe then he wouldn't drive like an idiot anymore. hope the family has closure and the driver has the ability to get past this bad monent in time in his life.

Sherry I was there right after the accident happened and drove to the Jack in the box because there where EMT's there, I tried the best I could at the time to get him help. However I do feel he did die on impact. I wont go into details on why I feel this way by what I saw. But having been in the military you just know. I do feel your pain and Iam very sorry for your loss and his familys. There has been plenty of times I have rode my bike in Rancho and have had Chris ride side by side with me until we part our ways to our own destinations but I know it was him because of the bike colors. Theres not too many yellow and black bikes in the Rancho area. I had thought I was the only one with a bike that color. I wish me and Chris would have gotten to know each other, but our paths went different directions on those days. Again my deepest condolences go out to you and your son as well as his family and friends. He will be missed by all and even those of us fellow riders who didnt know him. James

Complete your braking before entering a turn, when possible. If you need to brake when turning, you can use the front, as well as the rear, brake, as long as the road isn't very slippery and you apply the brakes gently - you've less traction available for braking when you're leaning the bike.
