Alleged window-smasher cuts self

A man allegedly jumped on a parked car in Rosemont and smashed its windows while drunk last month, but cut himself on the glass and had to be hospitalized, according to a sheriff's department crime log.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 30 at 9408 Kiefer Blvd., the crime log states.

The victim didn't directly see the vandalism in progress, so the suspect wasn't arrested, spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said. Also, when the suspect was admitted to the hospital, staff there didn't know how he had cut himself.

"In light of that, it appears that the decision was made to take a report, naming the suspect, and forward it to detectives for follow-up and the decision whether or not to issue a warrant for him," Ramos said in an email.
