UPDATE: Former CRPD Employee Arrested in Connection with Shooting Death

An arrest was made Tuesday.

Updated, 5 p.m.: A 47-year-old man who is a former employee of the Cordova Recreation and Park District was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder in connection with .

Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos identified the suspect as Dupree Barber.

"Investigation revealed that Barber was a former employee of the park district that Ebert worked for, and that Ebert had been one of Barber’s supervisors in the past," Ramos said in a press release. "Detectives believe that Barber’s loss of employment was directly related to his motive behind the commission of this crime."

The Cordova Recreation and Park District , according to media reports. 

According to Ramos' press release, Barber approached a West Sacramento Police officer this morning and said he believed authorities were looking for him.

"When detectives arrived at Barber’s location, he agreed to accompany them back to Sacramento County to speak with them about this incident," the press release stated. "Barber was ultimately arrested based on information received during the investigation, and evidence collected from the scene." 

A vehicle "connected with Barber" was found near the crime scene Monday, and other information led detectives to believe he could be involved, according to the press release. 

Ebert was found shot to death in his car around 6 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the park district's Rancho Cordova headquarters. The district shut down all of its operations Tuesday to address the incident.

Barber is due in court Thursday afternoon.
