Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting incident that claimed the life of a man earlier this evening. The victim, a Hispanic male in his twenties, was shot while riding in a vehicle near the 3900 block of Westporter Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Shortly after 6:20 p.m. tonight, multiple calls of gunshots fired came in from the area of Westporter Drive, near Tallyho Drive. Deputies responding to the scene discovered a Chevrolet Suburban stopped in the roadway, facing northbound on Westporter Drive at Lilibet Avenue. The victim was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. A female passenger inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting was uninjured at the scene.

Preliminary information suggested that another vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene just after the shots were fired. At this point in the investigation, no description of that vehicle or any occupant(s) inside of it is available. The female passenger of the victim’s vehicle was being interviewed to gain more information regarding what happened that led up to the crime being committed.
