Did You Hear Gunshots Wednesday Night?

Several residents reported hearing gunfire Wednesday night.

"Numerous" Rosemont residents called the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Wednesday night to report hearing gunshots around the area of Kiefer Boulevard and South Port Drive, department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said.

Ramos said the calls came in around 10 p.m.

"One person said someone jumped out of a black car and fired shots in the air, before speeding off," Ramos said. "Another person said a dark car drove by and someone fired shots from inside. Other people just said they heard shots fired."

Ramos said deputies searched the area and found shell casings outside of the Mushroom Lounge, "but could find no bullet holes in any businesses or vehicles."

Something needs to be done with the mushroom and the duplexes across the street in order for rosemont to be a nice safe community. Eminent domain maybe?
PAB March 15, 2012 at 05:20 pm
Have you actually ever been to the Mushroom or met anyone that frequents it? It is and has been a fixture of the rosemont community for over 25 years. The people that go there are long standing residents of the community who contribute to it financially and with their time in the community. Many of the patrons are active in Rosemont youth soccer, softball, baseball and RHS athletics. we are on the board of the community association etc The problem is not the Mushroom. Some idiot can pull up outside of Round Table and fire shots, you going to want to get rid of that too?

Let's be honest, the Mushroom does have a long history, but not all of it is good and certainly not all of it is bad. However, I do agree that you can't blame just the establishment, you do have to blame the surrounding area and there seems to be an uprise in criminal activity in our area and in particular the surrounding area. This is what happens when funding is cut for police and Sheriff's Departments. We need to recognize that we need these officers in the area patroling and making their presence known. The apartments and duplexes in the area absolutely do attract many undesireables. Just check Megan's Law website and you will be shocked about what you find. But let's be honest crime is everywhere you go! But more lighting, more cops, more partrols, helps every community. We have got to pull together and make it know that we want our community to be safe!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Julie, is there anything that can be done to make Rosemont safer if there isn't any money for new street lights or more patrols?
Cody Kitaura (Editor) March 16, 2012 at 02:14 pm
PAB, thanks for the comment. It sounds like you'd like something done to clean up the image of the Mushroom Lounge, yes? Can anything be done to help people realize that long-standing residents and respected citizens patronize that bar?
Indigo Child March 17, 2012 at 06:54 pm
Well said PAB. People are so quick to pass judgement and make assumptions based on NO facts. Have you even attempted to frequent the Mushroom Lounge? And have you taken a look around lately? When you have a moment, step out from behind your curtain and take in what the world is becoming and where it is heading. We people shape our world and a good percentage of us aren't doing well as "artists". Bad is everywhere, no matter where you live nowadays. Seek inner peace through meditation and spread love. (Sorry if I came across a bit harsh) ;o)
As far as needing more lawmen, I say we all should take action, be proactive in protecting one another and our possessions. My answer is, SO WHAT if you peek out your window when you hear odd noises or loud voices in the wee hours, BE NOSY!! It's our right! We all need to find our sense of oneness again so we can learn to live harmoniously. ~~Love me, Love Life, Love YOU!~~

There were reports of shots fired in other areas of Rosemont just a few days after this one, and judging from the lack of bullet damage it is hard to say there was a target in particular in this case. But in all fairness, if people are not recognizing the amount of activity in that area on a consistent basis they are essentially closing their eyes to one of the most troubled spots in our neighborhood. That shopping strip, of which The Mush is just a part, has had many problems in the past, including violence. EZ has problems, Shell has problems, The Mush has problems, and the duplexes across the street has problems. And this certainly isn't the first time that gunfire has been heard there. A few months ago some nut-case even opened up at the gas station, almost hitting innocent kids in nearby vehicles - he was arrested. During the summer, there are often groups hanging out there and particularly in that death trap of an alleyway next to EZ and in the rear areas. And all last summer long there were reports of gunfire up and down Kiefer. Thankfully no one was hurt, but there is far too much lead flying around and it looks like the mild winter is bringing summertime violence all too soon. Get involved in your neighborhood and if you see such activity, get the license plate and physical description if you can. Then get the info to the cops, and get these small-minded twerps with big egos off the streets. Guns aren't toys.

The Marks of this world are too blind to facts to bother arguing with. He thinks 4 generation ofRead More welfare and more people on food stamps then ever before in history is progress! What's the point acknowledging such absurd nonsense? Don't bother Roberto, complete waste of effort.

Nobody likes debt or an economy that is limping along. Obama has done an admirable job consideringRead More what he's had to put up with. The deficit has been reduced considerably. Stock market is as high as ever. Unemployment is still a big problem. Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs. Our bridges are falling apart. How about we invest in fixing our crumbling infrastructure, get those people back to work, get them spending, stimulate this economy. Oh, that's right, if Obama is for it, the opposition will automatically be against it (even if it's their idea!) .

Here we go - perfect example of a blind koolaid drinker. Listen to this: "The deficit has beenRead More reduced considerably" REALLY, then why has it doubled in the last few years? What planet are you from? "Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs." then "Obama has done an admirable job"....HELLOOOOOO! You can't have it both ways. My god we are lost if this is the mentality that is voting now - totally lost. I wish these types were routed out of the gene pool when things were tough and they would simply perish from stupidity. Now days thing are so easy they thrive and reproduce. Watch in 10 years how GREAT things are, just watch.
