Bee: Arrested Deputy Worked in Rancho Cordova

Kelly Smith was arrested Wednesday.

A Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy arrested Wednesday on drug charges was assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The Bee reported 43-year-old Kelly Smith "allegedly refilled and picked up painkillers prescribed to an elderly man she had befriended ... without the man's knowledge and kept the pills for her own purposes."

Smith, who has worked for the sheriff's department for 23 years, is charged with "unlawful possession of a controlled substance, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit, and unlawful use of personal identifying information of another," according to a sheriff's department press release.

She was released from jail after posting bail and is currently on administrative leave, the press release states.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones responded to the arrest in a statement.

“Maintaining the public trust is paramount to the Sheriff’s Department," Jones was quoted as saying. "Any alleged violation of that trust is something that the Sheriff’s Department will aggressively investigate and take appropriate action.”

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
