Attorney Says Case Against Accused Killer of Jessica Funk-Haslam is "Very Weak"

Attorney's debate the weight of the evidence against Ryan Douglas Roberts, who is accused of murdering 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam.

The case against accused killer Ryan Douglas Roberts, 23, is "very weak" according to his attorney.

Robert's attorney, Jennifer Mouzis, is quoted in this Modesto Bee story scrutinizing the amount of evidence against her client during a Friday court appearance.

Deputy District Attorney Eric Kindall, disagreed with Mouzis' opinion of the evidence against Roberts.

Roberts is accused of killing 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam, in March 2012, and leaving body on a baseball diamond in Rosemont.

Investigators say that DNA evidence found near the girl's body links Roberts to the crime. But Mouzis said that she has not seen any other evidence that would suggest her client is the teenager's killer.

During the court appearance, Mouzis showed concern over her client’s right to a fair trial.

Mouzis said she was concerned that a camera in the courtroom and pretrial publicity would vilify her client and cause the jury pool to be tainted.
