A woman lost her life in a traffic accident Sunday afternoon in Rancho Cordova; three people were also injured during the collision.
The accident happened at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Road at 3:45 p.m., Sunday.
Police said the woman was a passenger in a sedan that was eastbound on Douglas Road and drove through the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard.
"A sport-utility vehicle with two occupants was northbound on Sunrise Boulevard, and struck the passenger side of the aforementioned sedan," a Rancho Cordova Police Department statement read. "The impact left the SUV overturned as it came to rest after the collision. Initial indications were that the sport-utility vehicle entered the intersection against a red traffic signal."
The female passenger of the sedan sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of that car and the two occupants of the sport-utility vehicle were transported to area hospitals, and were expected to survive their injuries, police said.
The names of the people involved in this accident were not available as of this posting. We will update the story once we find out the names.
