Dinner and a Movie: "The Amazing Spider-Man" Spins More Fun Than the Original

Spider-Man is back swinging at the box office, with different actors, a different look, and a whole lot more spidey swagger.

Dinner: Sushi is a great way to (most) any man's or woman's heart, and a fun way to share food that doesn't overstuff the belly. We suggest on Folsom Boulevard for a few rolls and/or sake.

Showtimes: "The Amazing Spider-Man" is showing at West West 6 Drive-In on Oates Drive at 8:55 p.m. and 11:40 p.m.

Review: Spider-Man is back and we love it!

Andrew Garfield takes over from Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, a nerdy kid who gets bitten by a radioactive arachnid in "The Amazing Spider-Man."

The film is somewhat of a reboot about the origins of Spider-Man. Parker gets bullied in school, meets a pretty girl, gets spidey powers, his family falls victim to street thugs, he becomes a superhero.  It's pretty much the same storyline, just a bit grittier than the one 10 years ago. This one has more swagger, more angst and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, the new spidey love interest.

This is not a total carbon copy of the original, but it's basically the same storyline. Different actors, sure, a different director, sure, there is even a different bad guy, the CGI is better, it's even in 3-D. But honestly, it's pretty much a remake.

Don't get me wrong, the film is entertaining. It's slick, Garfield is great, and so is Stone. There is plenty of action and plenty of romance. You know how the story is going to end because there is a good chance you saw the first film, but like a well-worn shoe, it's got that soul that feels good to the audience.

The film is redundant. The story is familiar to the audience and, for the Spider-Man purists out there, it is telling it wrong. I will leave out the spoilers here. For the first half hour or so I hated the movie, but little by little, I began to like it. So the flick-o-meter gives "The Amazing Spider-Man" a four out of five.

There is nothing really amazing about this Spider-Man and the film is not breaking new ground, in fact, it was unnecessary. That being said, it was good. The two-plus hour film slowly grows on you with its energy and grandeur. Check it out, you'll see.

The three people - look like they are under 20 years old and are either light skinned black - orRead More Hispanic - travel together often around Percival, Firelight and Caldera. They have also stolen a flip-phone - then asked for $20.00 when they returned it.

The Marks of this world are too blind to facts to bother arguing with. He thinks 4 generation ofRead More welfare and more people on food stamps then ever before in history is progress! What's the point acknowledging such absurd nonsense? Don't bother Roberto, complete waste of effort.

Nobody likes debt or an economy that is limping along. Obama has done an admirable job consideringRead More what he's had to put up with. The deficit has been reduced considerably. Stock market is as high as ever. Unemployment is still a big problem. Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs. Our bridges are falling apart. How about we invest in fixing our crumbling infrastructure, get those people back to work, get them spending, stimulate this economy. Oh, that's right, if Obama is for it, the opposition will automatically be against it (even if it's their idea!) .

Here we go - perfect example of a blind koolaid drinker. Listen to this: "The deficit has beenRead More reduced considerably" REALLY, then why has it doubled in the last few years? What planet are you from? "Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs." then "Obama has done an admirable job"....HELLOOOOOO! You can't have it both ways. My god we are lost if this is the mentality that is voting now - totally lost. I wish these types were routed out of the gene pool when things were tough and they would simply perish from stupidity. Now days thing are so easy they thrive and reproduce. Watch in 10 years how GREAT things are, just watch.
