On Wednesday at Rosemont High School, Rosemont resident Don Mashburn, representing Florin Road Bingo, presented a $5,000 check to representatives of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.  These funds will help to implement Rosemont youth activities through the Sheriff's Activity League.

Rosemont was selected by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department in January as a pilot community for establishing youth activities.  At that time, Deputy Zach Hatch and Deputy Dana Vicory were assigned to implement the Sheriff’s Activities League (SAL) program in the Rosemont area.

When Mashburn recently learned about SAL, he became instrumental in obtaining financial support for the organization.  Florin Road Bingo, one of the best charity bingo halls in Sacramento, supports over 60+ charities.  SAL is thrilled to be among them and the recipient of this gift.  The generous support that Florin Road Bingo has provided will go a long way toward accomplishing the goals of the SAL program.

What is the Sheriff’s Activities League (SAL)?

SAL is a juvenile gang and crime prevention program that relies on athletic and academic activities to develop a bond between law enforcement officers and the youth in our community.

SAL will bridge the gap between law enforcement, kids and the community through sports and instructive activities and by establishing mentoring relationships. The mission is to develop productive citizens, build character and prevent crime. Studies have shown that children who interact with law enforcement officers in a positive way on the ball field or in the classroom will likely grow to respect the laws of the community that law enforcement officers enforce.  SAL will promote these values through the leadership of officers who work hands-on with the youth in the programs, emphasizing the importance of life skills which provide positive enrichment.
