A Fond Farewell to the Founding Editor

Felicia Mello is leaving Patch and the state.

Americans have an obsession with telling people they're busy, and as a New York Times columnist recently pointed out, this is often more of a boast than anything.

Felicia Mello never struck me as one of those kind of people. A reporter and editor who prefers tea to coffee and likes longform journalism, Felicia seems to prefer that things are done correctly, but also works as hard as any manager I've worked with.

Now she's headed somewhere else to do that. Felicia is leaving Patch to take a job overseeing the online presence of several publications in Las Vegas.

She has worked with Patch for two years as of Thursday, and she'll be missed.

She was the founding editor of Elk Grove Patch when it launched in December of 2010 and went on to become the Associate Regional Editor of the six sites in the Sacramento area.

In Elk Grove, she definitely wrote about some topics I wouldn't even know how to begin to approach, but she set a solid foundation for the site. As our manager, Felicia provided sound guidance and wasn't too much of a slave driver (wink wink).

The news comes a few months after another of our colleagues in the region left for another desert state, and as longtime freelancer Karen Wilkinson leaves for a job in Sacramento.

Best of luck to all of you, and stay in touch.

Cody, you sneak! Thanks for the farewell wishes : ) It's true: By this time next month, I'll be working as Deputy Editor for Online at Vegas Seven, a weekly magazine in Las Vegas. It's not an exaggeration to say I wouldn't be ready for this new opportunity without the valuable experience I gained in Elk Grove. This town and its people will always be special to me, and I'll continue to obsessively follow your local news from afar. Much love to all the Elk Grovians who have supported this site since it started in Dec. 2010. I'll post another message with new contact info, so we can stay in touch.
